William Blane Richardson, M.D.Dr. Richardson is a well-educated physician who has found a home at the Southeastern Spine Institute (SSI). He joined SSI because of its facilities and reputation. SSI’s three-acre independent medical campus includes two 22,000-square-foot buildings filled with state-of-the-art equipment, a pain management department, physical therapy facilities, three MRI machines and South Carolina’s only accredited ambulatory surgery center (ASC) dedicated specifically to back and neck surgery.

Education and Background

After graduating from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, Dr. Richardson went to the University of St. Thomas in Houston to satisfy his premedical requirements. He graduated from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, the West Indies, for his Doctorate degree.

Dr. Richardson completed his internship for Internal Medicine in the Greenville (SC) hospital system. He followed with a residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Massachusetts in Worchester, where he was awarded the Most Distinguished Resident in 2007. He completed a fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He served on the Quality Improvement Committee for Pain Management at the University Medical Center.

Board Certification and Associations

Dr. Richardson became Board Eligible in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology in 2007. He has received full licensure in Massachusetts, Kentucky, and South Carolina. He is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), training programs by the American Heart Association. In addition, he was certified in Fiberoptic Airway Management in 2007.

An Active Lifestyle

Dr. Richardson believes in staying active. In addition to his professional responsibilities, he takes advantage of the Charleston, SC, environment, both outdoors and indoors. His interests include exercise, reading, music, lacrosse, computers, Aikido, Judo, and movies.
