Pre-Cert Specialist

Area: Reimbursement

General Statement of Duties: To perform clerical general office and accounting tasks as necessary to ensure an efficient and effective medical office.  

Reporting/Supervisory Relationship: Finance Manager

Typical Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching overhead and lifting up to 40lbs.  

Typical Working Conditions: Busy office environment. Works with public, physicians and patients.  

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Per-cert MRIs, all surgeries, same day cervical, and lumbar epidural injections.
  2. Verify benefits for MRI patients.
  3. Work with MRI Receptionist and Medical Assistants on schedule conflicts, benefits and deductibles for MRI, and surgery patients (team work).
  4. Report MRI denials to Medical Assistants.
  5. Retrieve charts from the Block Suite.
  6. Calculate percentages for MRI payments.
  7. Report amounts to be collected from MRI patients.

Other Job Duties:

  1. Attends annual OSHA and HIPAA training programs.
  2. Reports any perceived hazard to their supervisor or OSHA Safety Officer upon discovery.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Effective interpersonal skills.
  2. Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  3. Basic math skills.
  4. Pleasant telephone voice and manner.
  5. Working knowledge of office business machines.
  6. Accurate typing skills.
  7. Basic data entry skills.
  8. Attention to detail able to train.

Education: High school diploma or one year related experience.  

Experience: Clinical and insurance back ground preferred, but not required. 1 year experience in a physicians practice also preferred.
